Editorial : Don't let timely help go sour
文章日期:2020年8月5日

【明報專訊】THE healthcare system of Hong Kong has been under great strain as the city is in the midst of a relapse in the COVID-19 pandemic and the number of new cases in the third wave of infections remains at a high level. The healthcare system is running at nearly full capacity. It is necessary to strengthen weak links like the capacity of nucleic acid testing and medical facilities. One may say the two mainland teams sent to Hong Kong by the National Health Commission to support anti-pandemic efforts are a timely help. If implemented properly, the mainland's support can help Hong Kong alleviate the pressure caused by the pandemic, coexist with the virus in the medium and long term, and enable the continuous operation of business and economic activities. As some people may view the mainland's actions in Hong Kong from some other perspectives, high transparency should be maintained regarding the work of the support team and other things concerned so as to stem suspicions and malicious manoeuvres. That will enable the smooth execution of the support efforts and avoid unnecessary controversies. Good things should be done in a way that will not turn them into bad things.
