Editorial : One year into HK's violent political struggle
文章日期:2020年6月15日

【明報專訊】THE DAY June 12, 2019 was an important turning point in Hong Kong. A year has passed since then. Hong Kong's beleaguered citizens do not know which course to follow. People from different parts of the political spectrum have different perceptions about the June 12 incident but perhaps all would agree that Hong Kong became different that day. Rifts in society are unprecedented. Relations between the SAR government and the public have ruptured. Tensions run high between Hong Kong people and the central government. In the international arena, Hong Kong has also become a battleground for the Sino-US struggle. The SAR government turned a deaf ear to the June 9 anti-extradition march by a million people. This, together with the ignition of the fire of violence in society by the June 12 incident, has ushered in a "political war" on all fronts. Political struggle has permeated into every corner of society. It will be difficult for Hong Kong to find a way out if such conditions are not changed.
