文章日期:2020年1月3日

【明報專訊】AS HONG KONG has bid farewell to the old year and rung in the new one, the city's atmosphere seems to be filled with much more frustration than joy. Tens of thousands of people took to the streets to express their political demands, but the march was cut short after incidents of violence and vandalism reappeared on the streets. Millions of people tried their fortune at the Tourism Board's online lucky draw, only to be disgruntled at the organiser's problematic arrangements. The government has shown to be inept at solving major political conflicts. But now the authorities have even failed to tackle such minor tasks as holding an online lucky draw for the city, turning a good thing into a bad one to much criticism online and offline. Citizens have lost their confidence in the government's capability of governing society and handling matters in a concrete manner. If the authorities do not put effort into improving themselves, the barrier between the government and the people will only deepen.
