Short in stature and baby-faced, the 37-year-old mayor of a city with a population of just 100,000 went to Harvard, graduated with a first-class honours degree in philosophy, politics, and economics from Oxford on a Rhodes scholarship, worked at McKinsey & Company, and was enlisted into the US navy. He speaks several languages in addition to his native English: French, Italian, Norwegian, Arabic and others.
