Editorial:Distressing emergence of home-made bombs and lone-wolf attacks
文章日期:2019年10月16日

【明報專訊】AS the storm over the extradition law continues, many people's worries about the occurrence of particular scenes are becoming realities one after another. Following the wave of petrol bombs and the shooting of a person by live ammunition, there was even the first explosion of a home-made bomb at Mongkok on Sunday. Though no one was injured, the incident was enough to bring back the historical memories of the days when home-made bombs were everywhere during the 1967 riots. It is true that the law enforcement actions by the police have aroused controversies. But that does not mean extreme, violent acts of vengeance are acceptable. Both neck-slashing at close quarters and a home-made bomb attack are attempted murder. People could have been killed, and those who carried out these attacks might have ruined their futures. From lone-wolf arson attacks to roadside bombs, the way violence has escalated over the past few days is hugely distressing. Members of society should stop justifying violence, refuse to take part in radical propaganda and remind young people not to let their rationality be clouded by hate and not to act recklessly.
