【明報專訊】The Allied forces landed in Normandy on 6 June 1944, on what we now know as "D-Day". US troops suffered the heaviest casualties on Omaha Beach, where German soldiers hid in pillboxes and killed their defenseless enemies. Only after the surviving troops climbed the steep cliffs under heavy fire did they make a breakthrough and secure the area. About 2,000 US soldiers were killed on Omaha Beach.
