Editorial﹕Classification by OAT runs counter to common sense
文章日期:2018年7月27日

KILLING COMMENDATORE, a novel by Japanese writer Haruki Murakami, has been given an interim classification as a Class II (indecent) article by the Obscene Articles Tribunal (OAT). The novel has to be sealed in a wrapper with a warning notice when it is sold. The decision of the OAT has drawn fierce criticism because it shows clearly that the OAT has ignored the context of the novel and has not considered the case from a literary perspective at all. The OAT should review the classification of Killing Commendatore and the current classification mechanism and criteria should be reviewed comprehensively.
