【明報專訊】THE Asian Games are to be held next month in Jakarta. Though Hong Kong is to dispatch the greatest ever number of athletes to the games, Hong Kong people nearly found themselves unable to watch their performance due to local stations' reluctance to relay the sporting event. It has again become a topic for discussion in society what role the government should play in relaying big sporting events. The public's demand for the right to watch such events in support of Hong Kong athletes is very reasonable. The government should not be hamstrung by the free market ideology and refuse to interfere even when the market is ineffective.
