Editorial : Random sample survey crucial for gauging public opinion on land supply
文章日期:2018年4月16日

【明報專訊】THE ARRANGEMENT of the public consultation in the upcoming "big debate" of land supply has attracted a lot of attention. To consolidate the majority's view and to persuade the minority and the vested interests to act in the public interest instead of insisting on their own views, the Task Force on Land Supply must deepen public discussion. However, if there is no large-scale random sample public opinion poll in the consultation, the credibility of the outcome of the consultation will inevitably suffer. The consultation could easily be challenged for protecting the vested interests and for not having the courage to face up to public opinion. The government has given so much thought to and invested so much effort in the preparation of the "big debate". It should be careful not to allow the "big debate" to fall apart due to flaws in methods of consultation.
