A Journey Backwards : How to cross the road without being killed
文章日期:2018年1月22日

【明報專訊】Imagine a video game with the sole objective of crossing the road safely. Road traffic must be one of the major obstacles that varies with levels. In Myanmar, the curious phenomenon of having right-hand drive vehicles on the right side of the road challenges travellers with a weak sense of orientation. People in former British colonies, like Hong Kong, used to drive on the left side until the eccentric General Ne Win turned things around. Yet, the country continues to import old cars from Japan, which steer on the right side. Even road signs stay as they were in the old days. As such, it may take travellers a while before they turn their heads to the correct direction while crossing the road, or simply, exiting a car without getting run over. Fortunately, Myanmar drivers are relatively skilled despite the technical difficulties. In the language of video games, this level should be cleared rather easily.
