Editorial﹕A horrible betrayal of medical ethics
文章日期:2017年12月14日

【明報專訊】STEPHEN CHOW, the founder of DR Group and Billy Chan, who headed its laboratory, have been found guilty of manslaughter. But the verdict can never compensate for the physical and mental sufferings the victims and their families have endured over the past five years. During the 100-day long trial the court heard a horrifying story of souls blinded by greed. Chow is a medical doctor, but what is seen in him is only a lust for money and an utter disregard of human life. He even tried to pass the blame to others after the incidents happened, claiming he was also a "victim". "Keeping a parental mind when treating patients" is the most basic tenet of medical ethics. Lessons must be drawn from the DR incident. The medical profession should not let self-interest take precedence of what they were first minded to do, and the government is obliged to have medical beauty treatments regulated as soon as possible by legislation.
