But the verdict can never compensate for the physical and mental sufferings the victims and their families have endured over the past five years. During the 100-day long trial the court heard a horrifying story of souls blinded by greed. Chow is a medical doctor, but what is seen in him is only a lust for money and an utter disregard of human life. He even tried to pass the blame to others after the incidents happened, claiming he was also a "victim". "Keeping a parental mind when treating patients" is the most basic tenet of medical ethics. Lessons must be drawn from the DR incident. The medical profession should not let self-interest take precedence of what they were first minded to do, and the government is obliged to have medical beauty treatments regulated as soon as possible by legislation.
