【明報專訊】HONG KONG Athletic Team member and hurdling champion Vera Lui Lai-yiu's move to join the #MeToo campaign has evoked wide repercussions in society and provoked discussions of concern about sexual abuse. But those discussions have been blended with noises that questioned the motive. Some voices even associate the #MeToo campaign to a "gender war", claiming that "Hong Kong men may easily be wronged" and so forth. Lui has revealed the abuse she suffered for the sole purpose of arousing public concern. She has neither named the molester nor asked for a trial by public opinion. The public should demonstrate empathy instead of throwing wild guesses about her motive, for that not only is unfair to Lui but may also scare other victims that they dare not say "me too".
