A Little English : The peasant and the snake
文章日期:2017年6月2日

【明報專訊】One fine day, a large snake crawled into a peasant's house. The man and his family were very frightened and wanted to run out and get help from the other villagers. But the snake said softly, "My good man, you need not fear me. I am quite unlike others of my species. All my life, I have longed to be friends with humans and to live among them as a good neighbour. I can guard your house and help look after your young children. What man or beast will dare harm them if I am there as protector? I have many other useful skills and can rid your home of mice, rats and other vermin (害蟲、害獸). Your fields too will yield a better harvest. What do you say?"
