The City as Told : Lessons taught by nature, as told by a reclusive biologist

【明報專訊】In a school on an outer island live two faint-hearted hedgehogs, a jealous iguana (鬣蜥) and four gigantic shell turtles. Yan calls them the staff, or rather, stars of the school. "They mesmerise students. Here, you get to cuddle the hedgehogs, and witness the iguana being bitter about it — animals can be very human sometimes. Those animals, except the hedgehogs, were all smuggled into Hong Kong and found by the customs. Our school adopted them and has introduced them to our students to illustrate animal smuggling. It's one thing to know about the problem, but a whole different experience to see the victims. Ecology isn't an obvious concept students can grasp."
