【明報專訊】Lunar New Year is fast approaching. Because my family is only partly ethnic Chinese, when I grew up in Hong Kong, we did not observe many traditional Chinese practices in the festive time. My fondest memory was that of the whole family having a jolly time celebrating "other people's" New Year in an American steakhouse! Another favourite activity of ours was to see a Hollywood film in a cinema. But just as important, I have warm recollections of the fragrance of fresh flowers at Chinese New Year flower markets.
