【明報專訊】Many of us remain squeamish about donating organs though more and more organisations and celebrity-driven campaigns are celebrating the virtue of doing so. At the university where I work, we have signed the Organ Donation Promotion Charter drawn up by the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority to promote organ-donation awareness as part of the ideal of "whole person education". Still, some in Hong Kong are against organ donation on religious grounds, while others have family beliefs contrary to their intention to become donors. Many people avoid becoming organ donors because they are afraid that may mar their own medical treatments. They fear that, if doctors and surgeons know they have signed donor's cards, they may not do their best to save their lives. This is of course a misconception because surgeons involved in medical treatments are not those involved in organ donations.
