【明報專訊】Indeed, non-Chinese ethnic characters have played in, and contributed to, the growth and diversity of Hong Kong cinema. Typically, ethnic characters appear in lead, supporting, or minor roles. Here the lead role means the character plays significantly to the plot with the most frequent appearance and interaction with the Chinese characters in the whole film. For example, Tactical Unit - Partners 《機動部隊——伙伴》(directed by Lawrence Lau Kwok-cheong (劉國昌), 2009) features a group of Hong Kong policemen and two South Asian brothers. Since the two ethnic boys are at the centre of the social problems in the film, their roles and interaction or actions are key to delivering the story. In this case, they are in the lead roles.
