【明報專訊】When was the last time you saw a gentleman or a lady wearing a fedora hat? Who among us has encountered a new friend who greets us with a salute by a slight tip of a hat, or by a gentle bow to you with their hand holding a hat in their bosom? At the turn of the Industrial Revolution, everyone, rich or poor, male or female, wore a hat. During World War II, hats were worn by many people as a morale booster, to symbolise the nation's support of their troops. Even though there was rationing of various clothes items during the war, hats were not rationed.
