Corruption in the army must be weeded out
軍隊腐敗必損戰鬥力 百年國恥勿重蹈覆轍

【明報專訊】"ANTI-CORRUPTION" was one of the most discussed topics in the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference sessions this year. And no sooner had the sessions ended than the Xinhua News Agency reported that Xu Caihou, former vice chairman of the Central Military Commission suspected to have abused the power of his office and accepted bribes, had died of disease. While Xu was thus spared the agonies of trial and punishment, the fact remains that he died ruined and disgraced. It must be pointed out that corruption in the army has reached an "appalling" level, as Premier Li Keqiang said in his government work report, and the Communist Party of China should let the people know how it is going to weed out corruption in the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and restore its fine traditions so that it may effectively discharge its responsibility of defending the country.
