Pop Around Town﹕Spotlight on the Rich Brats

【明報專訊】There is a special kind of popular celebrity. They are not known for their artistic talents, such as singing or acting. Their allure (魅力) comes from public disapproval rather than admiration. They are sons and daughters of tycoons of extreme wealth. In Hong Kong, the term "fuyidoy" (or "fu'erdai" in Putonghua) was coined to refer to them, carrying an undertone of censure (批評). These "second-generation rich brats" attract media attention often through their misbehaviour. Their celebrityhood, if we can call it this way, comes also from self-indulgent (放縱的) display of their lavish spending on luxury goods, cars or even private jets.
