Cut in visitor arrivals
減內地客須有退巿機制 手掌撞腦袋非負責之舉

【明報專訊】AT A MEETING of the Commission on Strategic Development Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying mentioned cutting visitor arrivals from the mainland by 20%. Retails shares immediately plunged, though he has subsequently stressed that is only one of the options under discussion. The Census and Statistics Department has announced that last April retail sales were down 9.8% on the same period of the previous year. Things are far worse than market participants expected. Shops in downtown areas have been put up for sale for greatly reduced prices. The retail sector has thrived over the past few years thanks to mainland visitors. That seems unlikely to remain the case.
