Starting it all off with a blast are various extravagant college balls students can attend. The well-known balls are called "Commemoration balls", which are held by a specific selection of colleges in rotation every few years. The tickets for these balls are highly sought after, despite their rather steep prices. A small holiday can even be paid for with the same amount. Thus ball attendees understandably have extremely high expectations of what they pay for.
