【明報專訊】Tucked away in the rocky countryside in Peru (秘魯), Machu Picchu (馬丘比丘) is believed to have been Inca (印加) leaders' royal estate or sacred (神聖的) religious site. The Incan civilisation was virtually wiped out by Spanish invaders in the 16th century. Machu Picchu remained abandoned until the American archaeologist (考古學家) Hiram Bingham stumbled (偶然發現) upon it in 1911.
