【明報專訊】I was horrified when I first heard about bear farming several years ago. Shocking and inhumane methods of bile extraction have been developed by bear farmers in China, Vietnam and Korea. Bears in captivity are confined in tiny cages, and bile is regularly extracted from their gall bladders as a traditional Asian medicine, which is completely replaceable with cheap herbs and synthetics. Bears are given very little food and water so that they will produce more bile. Their teeth and claws may have been removed. They endure living hell.
