【明報專訊】Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama (第十四世達賴喇嘛丹增嘉措), was the first Chinese to receive a Nobel Peace Prize. He was awarded it in 1989 for his efforts in the struggle for the liberation of Tibet and for a peaceful settlement instead of using violence. The President of the Nobel Committee said his efforts were reminiscent of the contribution of Gandhi (甘地), who used peaceful means to fight for India's independence. Tenzin Gyatso's efforts are based on Gandhi's philosophy of peace and non-violence, which has had great influence on nationalist movements all over the world.
