【明報專訊】aunt jemima by Lucille Clifton (1936- 2010) is a black woman's lament (悲嘆) for home. It harks back to a time in the US history when many black women served as housemaids in wealthy white families, with the result that young white children developed strong bonds with their black nannies. Aunt Jemima, the title of the poem, is a brand of syrup, the label of which shows a picture of a black housemaid.
